2007 - A year in review.

The first SADRA meeting of 2007 was at Moose's pub in Fort MacLeod on January 7th. It was decided that a membership drive begin with a reduced fee of $1.00/per person.

During February the club participated in the Swap Meet at the Exhibition grounds. Club elections were held on February 21st. Andy Kandel agreed to lead the club another year.

On March 24th, the club hosted an  Open House in Fort MacLeod at the Elks Hall. Street Wheelers, the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association, the Calgary Drag Racing Association, and Greg Westling all participated making the event a success. Wayne Anderson spoke about the club plans for the track and did a power point presentation. Al Bailey from CDRA and Murray Van Marrion from the Medicine Hat club both spoke of all the benefits of having a Motorsport Park in the community. During the March meeting it was decided that the club meetings be moved to Lethbridge so that more members might be encouraged to attend. The new Tailwind Raceway sign was put up out at the track.

During April we did a 48 page business plan for the club with the hopes that this may be of help to the club with it's pursuits of financing for the completion of the track. On April 21st, the generator raffle was won by Troy Mercer of Lethbridge. Andy donated the generator, so the club netted a profit of $860.00.

At the request of Mayor Shawn Patience, the club was asked to participate in another open house in Fort MacLeod on May 28th . Others participating were the highways department, Police college, and the Chinook Health Region. We estimate that approximately 400 local citizens were in attendance. This year Kevin looked after ordering newly Designed Tailwind Raceway T-Shirts. During the spring and summer, more dirt work was done out at the track.

In July some of our members helped out with traffic control at the Cruise night on Street Machine Weekend. During August the club membership decided to have a Trust Account set up for donations for the purchase of the track property. Andy Kandel and Sandy Larsen met with Barbara Vallance, our club lawyer and set up the trust account on September 5th. The club has grown in size this past year. The membership drive was very successful. We are pleased to now have approximately 530 members. Andy Kandel, Wayne Anderson, Haydn Powis and Wayne Joss represented the club at a Fort MacLeod town council meeting on December 10th . The results were very positive even though the December 19th Fort MacLeod Gazette chose not to report it that way.

So, we look forward to 2008. With donations and grant money we are hopeful that we can complete TAILWIND RACEWAY making it an event worthy facility that we can all be proud of.
